Long runner soumak rug from Afghanistan

This long and narrow piece is a Mushwani rug. It is the product of a standard commercial activity for this Afghan tribe. However, this piece is a special one, without the customary hand-knotted part. This particular piece is a really fine work, featuring numerous delicately embroidered details in very pleasant violet/bright magenta tones.
